NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto have celebrated the engagement of their daughter, Charlene Ruto, to Tanzanian technology entrepreneur Isaya Yunge, marking a significant family occasion that brought together relatives, friends and invited guests in Kenya’s Narok County.
The traditional engagement ceremony was held on Saturday, August 8, at Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris. The celebration incorporated cultural traditions associated with the Koito ceremony and brought together the families of the couple as Charlene and Yunge prepared to begin a new chapter in their lives.
President Ruto publicly expressed his happiness over his daughter’s engagement, describing the occasion as an important and joyful moment for the family. In a message accompanying photographs from the celebration, he said that he and First Lady Rachel Ruto were celebrating “with grateful hearts” as their daughter embarked on a new journey with her fiancé.
“As your parents, we are proud of you, we rejoice with you and we will always stand beside you,” President Ruto said in a message addressed to the couple. He also congratulated Charlene and Yunge and offered his blessings for their future together, expressing his hope that their relationship would continue to grow through friendship, love, joy and lasting peace.

Yunge is a Tanzanian technology entrepreneur whose professional work has included digital initiatives intended to expand educational opportunities for young Africans. He is known for his involvement in SomaApps Technologies, a technology venture that has worked to connect students with information about scholarships and educational opportunities.
