The Rwandan community in the United States is preparing for the fifth edition of the Rwandan Diaspora Sports Weekend, a four-day gathering designed to strengthen unity, community engagement, and cultural connections through sports and family activities.
Scheduled for September 4–7, 2026, the event will take place at 18031 Central Park Circle in Boyds, Maryland. Organizers describe the gathering as an opportunity to bring together Rwandans living across the United States, along with families, friends of Rwanda, and members of the wider community, for a weekend centered on sports, fellowship, and social interaction.
Under the message “Unite. Compete. Celebrate,” the fifth edition will feature soccer, basketball, volleyball, and golf competitions. The program will also include a fun run and walk, children’s games and activities, music and entertainment, food vendors, refreshments, and opportunities for community networking.
The event reflects the growing role of community-based initiatives in maintaining connections among Rwandans living abroad. Sports can provide a common platform for people of different ages and backgrounds to meet, build relationships, and encourage younger generations to participate in activities that strengthen their connection with the broader Rwandan community.
