Rwanda will face Cape Verde this evening, September 29, 2026, in Matchday Two of Group K in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match, scheduled for 6:00 PM Rwanda time, will be the first meeting between the two nations in six years, with their previous encounters coming during the qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Rwanda and Cape Verde faced each other twice in 2020, with both matches ending in goalless draws.

The first meeting was played in Praia, Cape Verde, on November 12, 2020, where neither side managed to score.

They met again at Kigali Stadium on November 17, 2020, but the second encounter also ended 0-0.

However, much has changed for both teams since those meetings.

Cape Verde arrive in tonight’s encounter as a significantly more experienced side after making history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they made their debut on football’s biggest stage.

Their World Cup appearance marked a major milestone for Cape Verdean football and reflected the progress the national team has made in recent years.

Rwanda, meanwhile, have been working to rebuild and strengthen the national team as they seek to return to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The two sides also enter the qualifier with different results from the opening matchday. Rwanda started their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Liberia, while Cape Verde suffered a 3-1 defeat to Mali.

That makes tonight’s match an important opportunity for both teams as they look to strengthen their position in Group K.

For Rwanda, the Amavubi will be looking to build on their opening victory, while Cape Verde will be aiming to respond after their disappointing start.

The history between the two nations suggests another closely contested encounter. Their last two meetings produced no goals, but both teams now have a chance to create a different story when they meet again tonight.

With Cape Verde coming off a historic World Cup campaign and Rwanda seeking to establish themselves in the AFCON qualification race, attention will be on who can take control of the latest chapter in their rivalry.
