The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the African Union (AU) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of peace, stability, and democratic governance in the Central African Republic (CAR). The renewed engagement followed a meeting between the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of MINUSCA, Valentine Rugwabiza, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed the longstanding collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union in advancing peacebuilding efforts in the Central African Republic. Ambassador Rugwabiza expressed appreciation for the African Union’s continued partnership and acknowledged its contribution to supporting the country’s recently concluded combined elections, describing the cooperation as an important element in promoting institutional stability and democratic processes.
The meeting also highlighted the close coordination between regional and international organizations in addressing the challenges facing the Central African Republic. Through joint efforts, the United Nations and the African Union continue to work alongside national authorities and regional partners to strengthen governance, encourage political dialogue, and create conditions that support lasting peace and sustainable development.
In an official statement, MINUSCA noted that the Head of the mission thanked the African Union Commission Chairperson in person for the AU’s support during the successful completion of the combined elections, underscoring the value of cooperation between the two organizations in advancing peace and stability. African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has consistently emphasized the importance of collective African leadership in conflict prevention and resolution, affirming that strong partnerships remain essential to achieving durable peace and security across the continent.
