ARUSHA — Hosting global parliamentary leaders in Arusha provides “very strong publicity” for promoting Tanzania and its attractions, Minister of Works Masanja Kadogosa told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly.
The event showcases Tanzania’s rich culture, tourism sector, and world-class infrastructure, creating an opportunity to demonstrate what the country can offer to the world, the minister noted.
Kadogosa also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for what he described as outstanding preparations to host the assembly.
The 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is currently taking place from October 5 to October 9, 2026, in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. Hosted by the National Assembly of Tanzania (Bunge la Tanzania)
The 153rd IPU Assembly has brought together parliamentary delegations from around the world to Arusha, a city in northern Tanzania perhaps best known as the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti, and the seat of the East African Community. For Tanzania, the gathering represents one of the largest international conferences it has hosted in recent years, placing the country in the global spotlight for the duration of the proceedings.
Beyond the diplomatic and parliamentary business on the agenda, Tanzanian officials have sought to use the occasion to highlight the country’s infrastructure achievements including major road, rail, and port projects undertaken under the current administration as evidence of its capacity to host events of international significance.
The minister’s remarks underscore the dual purpose that Tanzanian authorities see in the assembly: advancing the country’s standing in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy while simultaneously marketing it as a destination for tourism, investment, and international conferences.
