BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to pay a state visit to Egypt in early September, marking his first state visit to the North African nation in a decade, according to an announcement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed the upcoming visit during a regular press briefing, noting that the trip carries “special significance” as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The visit is part of a broader diplomatic tour spanning from August 30 to September 3, which will also see President Xi attending the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek and paying a state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
A Historic Milestone for Bilateral Ties
During his time in Cairo, President Xi will hold formal talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The two leaders are expected to exchange in-depth views on strengthening the China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as navigating pressing international and regional issues of mutual concern.
“The China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership has achieved leapfrog development and entered its best period in history,” Lin stated, describing the relationship as a “model of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual benefit among developing countries”.
Strategic and Economic Cooperation
Egypt was among the first Arab and African nations to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China seven decades ago. In recent years, the two countries have deepened their political mutual trust and expanded practical cooperation across various sectors, from infrastructure to trade and green energy.
Through this milestone visit, Beijing aims to further align its Belt and Road Initiative with Egypt’s modernization goals.
“China looks forward to working with Egypt through the visit to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, support each other’s modernization process, jointly write a new chapter in China-Egypt relations, and make positive contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world,” Lin added.
