The 6th East African Community (EAC) Armed Forces Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Week officially concluded on September 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in regional defense and community support. The closing ceremony, held at the Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, coincided with the 62nd Anniversary of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) and gathered military representatives and Secretariat officials from across the EAC.
Regional Medical and Humanitarian Outreach
- Military medical teams from EAC Partner States delivered free healthcare to 11,439 individuals across Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Zanzibar, and the Coast Region.
- A 20-member Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Medical Contingent, deployed to Tumbi Regional Referral Hospital, treated 2,874 patients in collaboration with TPDF and local medical staff.
- The week’s initiatives also included various humanitarian assistance efforts and targeted community donations.
Strengthening Regional and Civilian Bonds During the closing events, TPDF Chief of Defence Force Gen Jacob John Mkunda thanked the visiting EAC Armed Forces for their participation. He emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation among Partner States and advocated for closer engagement between the military and civilians, echoing the spirit of “one people, one destiny.” Maj Gen Alex Kagame, RDF Reserve Force Chief of Staff, was in attendance to represent the RDF.
The initiative’s tangible community impact was highly praised by local residents and regional healthcare professionals. Germana Emmanuel, a patient from Kibaha District, shared that she and her grandchildren received care with deep respect and humility. Dr. Amani Malima, Medical Officer in Charge at Tumbi Regional Referral Hospital, noted that the extensive medical outreach successfully shifted the community’s perception, visibly demonstrating the military’s dedication to serving and caring for civilians. Ultimately, the week showcased the practical, life-changing benefits of unified regional defense cooperation.
