RWAMAGANA, Rwanda — The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has passed out 1,652 new officers, including 337 women, from its 22nd intake at the Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana District.

The ceremony was presided over by Internal Security Minister Vincent Biruta. The recruits were awarded the rank of Police Constable after completing 10 months of basic training.

Ceremony imagery showed formal parades with Rwandan flags, tactical formations in riot gear, live firearms training on ranges, and crowd-control drills involving armoured vehicles and water cannons. The passing-out parade highlighted Rwanda’s ongoing investment in police recruitment and gender inclusion within its security services.

The Minister of Internal Security, Vincent Biruta, stated in his remarks: ‘We want a Police force that anticipates problems before they arise instead of waiting for them to happen; a Police force that prevents crimes rather than waiting to investigate them after they have been committed.

In his remarks, Minister Biruta stressed the importance of a proactive police force that anticipates potential threats and prevents them, rather than simply investigating incidents after they have occurred.

He urged the newly graduated officers to uphold discipline, professionalism and dedication, to put citizens’ needs first, and to work hand in hand with other security organs to protect Rwandans’ well-being and preserve national pride.

The Commandant of Gishari Police Training School, CP R. Mujiji, commended the graduates for the enthusiasm, discipline, and commitment

The Commandant of Gishari Police Training School, CP R. Mujiji, commended the graduates for the enthusiasm, discipline and commitment they demonstrated throughout their training.

He reminded them that completing the course marked only the beginning of their professional journey, as they would continue to undergo various training programmes throughout their service in the Rwanda National Police to strengthen their knowledge, skills and capacity to effectively discharge their duties.

He concluded by urging them to uphold integrity, avoid any conduct that could tarnish the reputation of the Force, and remain committed to the values of the Rwanda National Police wherever they are deployed.
