MEXICO CITY, Mexico — Rwanda’s Ambassador to the United States and non-resident Ambassador to Mexico, Mathilde Mukantabana, has held talks with senior Mexican officials in Mexico City on strengthening bilateral cooperation, tourism and parliamentary relations.

Mukantabana met with Dr. Nathalie Véronique Desplas Puel, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, as well as Senator Carolina Viggiano Austria, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Africa.

The discussions focused on opportunities to expand cooperation between Rwanda and Mexico, particularly in tourism and hospitality, as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.

During her meeting with the Mexican tourism minister, Mukantabana discussed ways Rwanda and Mexico can share experiences and best practices in tourism development, including the training of hospitality workers.

Tourism remains an important area of potential cooperation between the two countries, with both sides exploring ways to strengthen exchanges and learn from each other’s experience in developing the sector.

Mukantabana also met with Senator Viggiano Austria to discuss strengthening parliamentary ties between Rwanda and Mexico. The engagement comes as both countries commemorate five decades of diplomatic relations.

The meetings in Mexico City highlight Rwanda’s efforts to deepen its diplomatic and economic partnerships with Mexico while identifying new areas for collaboration.
