KIGALI, RWANDA — In a monumental achievement for youth leadership and women’s empowerment across the continent, the Rwanda Guides Association has officially secured the bid to host the prestigious 40th World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Conference.
The announcement, celebrated widely across the nation this week, marks a historic new chapter not only for Guiding within Rwanda but for all of Africa. The highly anticipated upcoming conference will bring the global Guiding family to the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” promising a powerful celebration of international sisterhood, dynamic leadership, and positive global change.
Securing the rights to host this premier global event was a collaborative triumph, reflecting Rwanda’s growing prominence as a premier destination for major international summits. The Rwanda Guides Association extended its heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteers, local leaders, partners, and the countless young girls whose unwavering commitment made the successful bid a reality.
Crucial institutional backing was instrumental in this victory. The Association expressed deep appreciation for the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) and the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF), whose invaluable support championed the bid throughout the rigorous selection journey.
The transition of hosting duties also highlighted the strong bonds of the international Guiding community. Rwandan representatives extended a special vote of thanks to Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet and the Girl Guides of Cambodia, acknowledging their exceptional hospitality and inspiring organization of the previous conference, which sets a high standard for Kigali to follow.
