Rayon Sports F.C Reach First Kagame Cup Final Since 1998

Rayon Sports ended a 28-year wait to book their place in the Cecafa Kagame Cup final after a dominant 3-1 victory over South Sudan's Jamus FC in the semi-final clash at Pele Stadium, Kigali.

The final kicks off on Friday, August 8, 2026, at Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.

The Rwandan giants, backed by a fervent home crowd that transformed the stadium into a sea of blue and white, delivered a performance worthy of their historic achievement. The victory sets up a mouthwatering final against Kenya's Gor Mahia on Friday at Amahoro Stadium, with the coveted trophy and $30,000 prize money on the line.

Mundeli's Magic Breaks Deadlock

The breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute when Akbar Mundeli etched his name into Rayon Sport folklore with a moment of individual brilliance. The forward received the ball on the edge of the box, turned his marker with a deft touch, and unleashed an unstoppable strike that flew past the Jamus goalkeeper into the top corner.

The goal sent the partisan crowd into raptures, and Rayon Sport dominated proceedings thereafter, controlling possession and creating several opportunities to extend their advantage before the interval.

Djingarey Doubles Advantage

Ibrahim Djingarey doubled Rayon Sport's lead in the 57th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse from the South Sudanese side. The midfielder showed composure beyond his years, slotting home from close range after a swift counter-attack caught Jamus' backline flat-footed.

However, the visitors refused to surrender their continental ambitions. Bandiougou pulled one back for Jamus in the 71st minute, heading powerfully past the Rayon Sport goalkeeper from a well-delivered corner. The goal injected fresh impetus into the South Sudanese outfit, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
