Kigali- President Paul Kagame met with various leaders, including the President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, and the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, to discuss different issues, including promoting investment opportunities in Rwanda.
The meetings took place on May 14, 2026, while the leaders were attending the Africa CEO Forum held in Rwanda.
A statement published on the social media platforms of the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, said: “President Kagame also held meetings with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Sidi Ould Tah; the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Abdullah Almusaibeeh; the President of Africa Global Logistics Group (AGL), Philippe Labonne; and the President of Airbus Africa & Middle East, Gabriel Sémelas Gord. Their discussions focused on strengthening partnerships and advancing investment opportunities that support the country’s development agenda.”
Among the other leaders received by President Kagame was the President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the various sectors in which both countries already collaborate.
Village Urugwiro stated: “President Kagame held discussions with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon, who is in Rwanda to attend the Africa CEO Forum. Their discussions focused on ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through different economic sectors, increase trade, exchange expertise, and promote other areas of mutual interest for both countries.”
Rwanda and Gabon already maintain cooperation and trade relations, particularly through air transport, with Rwanda’s national airline, RwandAir, operating flights to Libreville, the capital of Gabon.
The two countries signed cooperation agreements in 1976, which were later updated in 2010.
In November 2024, Rwanda, represented by the Office of the Ombudsman, and Gabon, represented by its Commission Against Corruption and Money Laundering Crimes, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at combating corruption-related offenses.
In October 2023, a new chapter in relations between the two countries began when President Nguema visited Rwanda. During that visit, he and President Kagame discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and the discussions produced positive outcomes.
President Kagame and President Nguema agreed that Rwanda and Gabon would cooperate in advancing education, trade, the economy, agriculture, and technology.
