KIGALI, Rwanda — President Paul Kagame received outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Rwanda Julie Crowley for a farewell audience at Urugwiro Village as the diplomat prepared to conclude her tour of duty, marking an opportunity to review relations between Rwanda and Canada and prospects for continued bilateral cooperation.
According to an official announcement from the Rwandan Presidency, the meeting focused on the relationship between the two countries and their shared interest in maintaining and strengthening cooperation. The Presidency said their discussion “reflected on Rwanda-Canada relations” and the continued advancement of bilateral engagement in areas of mutual interest.
Crowley’s farewell meeting with President Kagame comes at the conclusion of her diplomatic assignment representing Canada in Rwanda. During such a transition, farewell audiences provide an opportunity for outgoing diplomatic representatives and national leaders to assess bilateral engagement while considering areas where cooperation can continue under future diplomatic leadership.
Rwanda and Canada maintain diplomatic relations encompassing development, trade, education and other areas of mutual interest. The two countries also engage through multilateral institutions and international initiatives addressing economic development and other global priorities.
