President Paul Kagame received the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Belén Calvo Uyarra, at Urugwiro Village for a farewell meeting marking the conclusion of her diplomatic mission in the country. The discussions focused on the long-standing relationship between Rwanda and the European Union, highlighting the progress achieved through years of cooperation in areas that support Rwanda’s national development agenda.
According to information shared by the Office of the President, the meeting reviewed the continued collaboration between Rwanda and the European Union in several strategic sectors, including vaccine manufacturing, peace support initiatives, critical raw minerals, infrastructure development, investment, education, and environmental protection. The engagement underscored the broad scope of the partnership and its contribution to economic growth, regional stability, and sustainable development.
President Kagame’s office stated that the discussions reflected the strength of the relationship built over many years and the shared commitment to advancing cooperation in priority sectors. “They discussed the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the European Union, and the progress made in advancing cooperation across key areas,” the Presidency said in its official communication, emphasizing the importance of maintaining constructive engagement as the ambassador concludes her tenure.
The European Union has remained one of Rwanda’s key development partners, supporting initiatives aimed at improving public health, expanding infrastructure, strengthening education systems, promoting environmental sustainability, and encouraging private-sector investment. Collaboration has also extended to peace support efforts and initiatives designed to enhance regional resilience and economic integration.
As Ambassador Belén Calvo Uyarra completes her diplomatic assignment in Kigali, the farewell meeting served as an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements realized during her tenure while reaffirming the shared commitment of Rwanda and the European Union to continue building on their partnership.
