ELDORET, Kenya — Kenya is today, October 20, 2026, celebrating its 63rd Mashujaa Day, or Heroes’ Day, in a historic first: a national holiday co-hosted by three counties — Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet.
The celebrations are being held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret City, Uasin Gishu County, with President William Ruto presiding. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is attending as chief guest.
This year’s theme is “Ngao Yetu, Ustawi Michezoni na Uchumi Bora,” focusing on security, sports and the economy.
Organizers described the multi-county collaboration as a landmark effort designed to boost regional growth, infrastructure and sports heritage in Kenya’s “Home of Champions.”
The event features a military air show, an inspection of the guard of honor and cultural performances, including by groups such as the Maroon Commandos. Celebrations are being broadcast live from Eldoret as Kenyans gather to honor the country’s heroes and reflect on national progress.
