KERICHO, Kenya — Four people survived a Kenya Forest Service helicopter crash at Kericho Golf Club on Monday, according to the agency’s subsequent public statement. The aircraft, registered as 5Y-FSK, was carrying a pilot and three passengers.
Forest Service Confirms Occupants’ Safety
“All the four are safe and accounted for,” the Kenya Forest Service said in its October 12 statement, correcting the initial count of five circulated after the accident. The agency did not identify the occupants or provide a detailed medical assessment. Its confirmation that everyone was safe does not establish that they escaped without injuries.
Emergency Response at the Golf Club
Initial accounts placed the accident during take-off. Photographs published from the scene show the helicopter resting on grass, with extensive damage and its tail separated from the main body.

Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo was cited in earlier reporting as saying that several occupants had sustained injuries and were taken to hospital in stable condition. Emergency responders and security personnel attended the scene.
Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno was identified as a passenger in early news coverage. However, the Forest Service’s subsequent announcement did not name those aboard.
Investigation to Establish the Cause
“The area has been secured and investigations will commence to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the Kenya Forest Service said.
The agency has not announced what caused the crash. Further official updates are needed to clarify the occupants’ medical conditions and establish the sequence of events that brought the aircraft down.
