Kigali, March 26, 2026 – More than 1,000 visitors from abroad have arrived in Kigali to attend the FIFA Series 2026 friendly matches, announced Shema Ngoga Fabrice, President of the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA).
The event, running from March 26 to 30, 2026, brings together national teams from countries that rarely participate in international friendlies, offering them a chance to compete on the global stage.
Kigali will host two groups of teams, each consisting of four countries. Group A includes Rwanda, Grenada, Kenya, and Estonia, while Group B features Aruba, Liechtenstein, Macau, and Tanzania.
In addition to the teams, coaches, and support staff, the tournament has attracted international journalists and FIFA event organizers.
Shema Fabrice highlighted the economic and social impact of the event. “Over 1,000 participants are here, including team delegations, journalists, and neighbors from Kenya and Tanzania. They will be accommodated for the week, contributing to the local economy,” he said.
According to FERWAFA, seven hotels are hosting teams, while fans and other visitors have the flexibility to stay at their preferred accommodations. Many attendees plan to explore Rwanda during downtime between matches.
In collaboration with the City of Kigali, FERWAFA is organizing a community event (Umuganda Rusange) to welcome participants and give them a chance to engage with Rwandan culture and communities.
The first match of the FIFA Series is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, at Kigali Pelé Stadium, featuring Aruba vs. Macau and Tanzania vs. Liechtenstein. On Friday, March 27, Kenya will face Estonia, and Rwanda will play Grenada at Stade Amahoro.
The tournament underscores Rwanda’s growing reputation as a destination for international sports events and offers an opportunity to showcase its hospitality, infrastructure, and cultural richness
