The Front pour la Refondation de la Nation (FRN) has reported attacks in Nyamabuguma, Rugezi and other surrounding areas near Minembwe, in South Kivu Province, in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
In a statement released on Monday, October 19, 2026, FRN spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuku said forces supporting the government in Kinshasa launched the attacks at around 2 a.m., using drones and heavy weapons.
The group also alleged that fighters from the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), Maï-Maï armed groups and foreign mercenaries were involved in the frontline operations.
FRN called on the Congolese population and the international community to closely monitor the security situation, particularly the safety of civilians in the affected areas. It stressed that protecting civilians remains a responsibility that must not be overlooked.
Kanyuku concluded by reaffirming the group’s commitment to protecting local residents and pursuing their security through all possible means.
The allegations could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
