Tuesday July 7th 2026, the Embassy of Rwanda in the United States hosted the Kwibohora32 celebration, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, U.S. government officials, academics, friends of Rwanda, and members of the Rwandan community to commemorate the 32nd Anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation. The event served as a reflection on Rwanda’s remarkable journey of unity, resilience, peace, and national transformation while also celebrating the enduring friendship and cooperation between Rwanda and the United States.
Speaking during the celebration, Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana expressed her sincere appreciation to Rwandans and friends of Rwanda for their unwavering support, dedication, and contributions toward strengthening the longstanding relationship between Rwanda and the United States. She acknowledged the important role played by the Rwandan diaspora, development partners, and friends of Rwanda in promoting cooperation, preserving the spirit of Liberation, and supporting Rwanda’s continued progress and development.
The significance of the evening was further reflected by the presence of distinguished international guests. Among them was Dr. J. Peter Pham, former United States Ambassador and Envoy for the Sahel and Great Lakes Region of Africa, who shared his appreciation for participating in the event. He noted that he was honored to join Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana, the Embassy of Rwanda staff, members of the Rwandan diaspora, representatives of the U.S. Government, the Diplomatic Corps, and other friends of Rwanda in commemorating the 32nd anniversary of Kwibohora, Rwanda’s Liberation Day. He described the occasion as a celebration of national unity and resilience, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Rwanda’s progress and the enduring partnerships that continue to support peace, stability, and cooperation.

Throughout the celebration, participants reflected on the sacrifices that made Rwanda’s Liberation possible and the achievements the country has realized over the past three decades. As Rwanda marked Kwibohora32, the event reaffirmed a shared commitment to cooperation, mutual understanding, and a future built on peace, resilience, and lasting partnership between Rwanda, the United States, and the international community.
