RUTSIRO, Rwanda — A total of 20 former members of the FDLR armed group have been reintegrated into their families and communities in Rutsiro District following their return to Rwanda.
Among the 20 returnees, 10 were former combatants who had served as soldiers within the armed group. They were officially handed over to their families and provided with basic assistance, including bedding and food supplies, to support them as they begin a new chapter of life within the Rwandan community.
The reintegration activity was attended by various officials, with Rtd Maj Gen Jacques Nziza serving as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the former FDLR members, Rtd Maj Gen Jacques Nziza urged them to embrace integrity, patriotism and a strong sense of responsibility as they rebuild their lives in Rwanda.
He encouraged them to love and serve the country where they were born, emphasizing the importance of contributing positively to their communities and the development of Rwanda.
The reintegration marks another step in efforts to support former members of armed groups in abandoning armed activities and rebuilding peaceful lives alongside their fellow Rwandans.
