Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi during a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial on Wednesday, April 9. The solemn visit followed a meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame to discuss regional security and economic partnerships.
Boulos and his delegation received a guided tour of the memorial, learning about the genocide’s history, causes, and Rwanda’s path to recovery. The trip marked part of his first regional tour since being appointed Trump’s senior advisor for Africa on April 1.
A day earlier, Boulos and President Kagame held what was described as a “productive discussion” on strengthening U.S.-Rwanda ties, with a focus on long-term peace in the Great Lakes region and expanding American investments in key sectors. “President Kagame and I discussed a vision for a closer partnership, one rooted in regional stability and economic development,” Boulos told reporters.
His regional tour also included meetings with the leaders of DR Congo, Uganda, and Kenya, underscoring the Trump administration’s emphasis on African partnerships.
