During Day 6 of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA80), Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to global connectivity and multilateral cooperation through the signing of two landmark agreements.
Representing the Rwandan government, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, Rwanda’s envoy to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, signed:
– A Visa Waiver Agreement with the Arab Republic of Egypt
– A Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
These agreements mark important milestones in Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to enhance its diplomatic footprint, improve mobility, and foster economic collaboration with partners across different continents.
During the official ceremonies, Minister Nduhungirehe emphasized Rwanda’s vision of an interconnected world built on opportunity, equality, and shared prosperity.
These agreements are not just about paperwork; they are about people, partnerships, and progress,” he stated. “They reflect Rwanda’s long-term commitment to building bridges, not walls — regionally and globally.”
The Visa Waiver Agreement with Egypt aims to simplify and encourage movement between the two countries for holders of diplomatic and service passports, while paving the way for expanded cooperation in areas like trade, investment, education, and tourism.
Meanwhile, the Air Services Agreement with Trinidad and Tobago signals Rwanda’s interest in deepening relationships beyond traditional partners. It sets the foundation for direct air connectivity, boosting travel, tourism, and cultural exchange between Africa and the Caribbean.
These agreements align with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 — which emphasizes economic diversification, increased international presence, and innovation-driven growth.
As Minister Nduhungirehe met with leaders and representatives from various countries on the margins of UNGA80, Rwanda’s diplomatic posture was clear: forward-looking, globally engaged, and proudly African.
The engagements further demonstrate Rwanda’s ability to punch above its weight in global affairs — not through size, but through strategy, agility, and clear purpose.
Whether signing bilateral agreements, contributing to global conversations, or forging new alliances, Rwanda’s presence at the UNGA serves as a testament to its maturing diplomacy and bold foreign policy.
“In an increasingly divided world, Rwanda chooses connection.”
