Washington, D.C. – A delegation from Rwanda has successfully completed an international training program on electric mobility organized by the World Bank Group, marking another step in the country’s efforts to advance sustainable transportation and urban innovation.
The training, titled “Accelerating Urban E-Mobility Solutions,” was coordinated through the World Bank Group Academy and brought together representatives from several countries. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of participating nations to design and implement effective electric mobility strategies while evaluating their readiness to adopt cleaner transport technologies.
Building Capacity for E-Mobility
The program focused on equipping government officials and sector experts with the knowledge required to accelerate the transition toward electric transportation systems. Participants explored practical strategies for deploying electric vehicles, developing supportive policies, and building infrastructure necessary for large-scale adoption.
Through the training, countries were also encouraged to examine their current transport ecosystems and identify opportunities to integrate electric mobility solutions that can reduce emissions, improve urban air quality, and support sustainable economic growth.
Year-Long Capstone Project
As part of the initiative, participants worked on a year-long Capstone Project divided into four sessions. The project focused on several critical areas related to the adoption of electric mobility.
These included:
- Evaluating the national context for e-mobility development
- Establishing electrification targets for selected transportation sectors
- Conducting policy gap analyses to identify regulatory needs
- Strengthening stakeholder engagement and collaboration
- Developing implementation plans for proposed policy measures
The Capstone Project allowed participating countries to apply the knowledge gained during the program to real-world policy and planning scenarios.
Rwanda’s Representation
Rwanda’s delegation to the program consisted of three officials representing different institutions involved in transport management and sustainability initiatives.
The delegation included:
- Bagambiiki Hubert, Chief Inspector in the City of Kigali
- Mr. Francois Zirikana, Chief Sustainability and E-Mobility Officer at Ecofleet Solutions
- CIP Celestin Kakira, representing the Rwanda National Police
Together, the team contributed to discussions on urban mobility planning, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable transport solutions.
Global Learning Sessions
The program was delivered through a series of international sessions hosted in different countries. Earlier sessions were held in South Korea, the United States in California, and Senegal, allowing participants to observe diverse mobility models and exchange experiences with global experts.
The final session took place at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where participants presented the outcomes of their Capstone Projects and shared insights gained during the training.
Graduation Ceremony
On March 12, the three members of the Rwandan delegation officially graduated after successfully completing the program’s earlier sessions and final presentation in Washington, D.C.
Their participation highlights Rwanda’s continued commitment to exploring innovative and environmentally friendly transportation systems that support the country’s long-term development goals.
Advancing Sustainable Transport in Rwanda
Electric mobility has increasingly become a priority for many cities worldwide as governments seek solutions to reduce carbon emissions and modernize urban transport networks. Rwanda has been among the countries exploring new approaches to sustainable mobility, including electric motorcycles, buses, and charging infrastructure.
The knowledge gained through the World Bank program is expected to contribute to ongoing discussions and policy development aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric mobility solutions across Rwanda’s growing urban centers.
