For the fifth consecutive year, Kigali-Rwanda has maintained its position as Africa’s second most preferred city for international association meetings, according to the 2024 report by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Rwanda also ranked third among African countries, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable and attractive host for major global events.
This consistent achievement reflects Rwanda’s steadfast commitment to stability, inclusiveness, and economic growth. Under the leadership of President Paul Kagame, the country has emerged as a model of peace and visionary governance, making it a compelling destination for international engagement.
Kigali’s rise as a global meetings hub is driven by progressive policies such as visa-on-arrival for all travelers and increased connectivity through RwandAir’s expanding route network. The city boasts world-class infrastructure, including the Kigali Convention Centre, BK Arena, Intare Conference Arena, and the newly renovated Amahoro Stadium — ideal venues for large-scale conferences and international sporting events.
Rwanda’s hospitality sector continues to flourish, with luxury hotels such as Radisson Blu, Marriott, and Four Points by Sheraton already established, and new entrants like Mövenpick, Odalys, and a range of high-end resorts expanding the country’s accommodation landscape.
In 2024, Rwanda hosted over 52,000 event participants, with MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) revenue reaching nearly $85 million. Landmark events like the FIA Annual General Assembly and the Africa Food Systems Forum brought in more than 17,000 international attendees, further cementing Rwanda’s status on the global stage.
Janet Karemera, CEO of the Rwanda Convention Bureau, praised the collaborative efforts behind the country’s success:
“This recognition results from the collective effort across our events sector and the continued trust placed in Rwanda. We’re inspired to further elevate our services and build an even stronger MICE ecosystem.”
Looking ahead, Kigali is set to become a center for MICE industry education through the ICCA Skills Hub, which will offer two internationally recognized certification programs — the CICS and CICE — aimed at empowering Africa’s event professionals with globally competitive training.
The message to international investors is clear: Africa is not just rising — it is transforming. With Rwanda’s political stability, safety, and forward-thinking leadership, the country presents a unique opportunity for investment in tourism, infrastructure, and professional services. As the world turns its gaze to Africa’s potential, Kigali stands proudly at the heart of this historic shift.
