The PFL Africa 3 mixed martial arts (MMA) event is set to take place on October 18, 2025, at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, marking a historic first for both the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and the country. As the first major PFL semifinal event ever held on the African continent, it underscores the growing global expansion of the PFL and the continent’s rising prominence in combat sports. Rwanda, known for successfully hosting high-profile events in basketball, cycling, and conferences, will now add MMA to its growing portfolio of international sports attractions.
This event will feature the semifinal stage of the PFL Africa 2025 tournament, which spans four major divisions: Heavyweight, Welterweight, Featherweight, and Bantamweight. Across 11 total bouts, eight of them will be semifinal matchups that determine who advance to the season finale in Benin later this year. There will also be two alternate fights and one “showcase” bout featuring local talent. The card was officially confirmed by the PFL on September 24, 2025, with an emphasis on competitive balance, showcasing both experienced fighters and rising stars from across the continent.
Among the most anticipated matchups is the Featherweight main event between Patrick Ocheme (7-1) and Abdoul Razac Sankara (7-4). Ocheme, representing Nigeria, is known for his precision striking and conditioning, while Burkina Faso’s Sankara brings knockout power and unorthodox grappling. The co-main event will feature Nkosi Ndebele (9-3) against Simbarashe “Simba” Hokonya (6-0) in the Bantamweight division. Ndebele’s experience and tactical control will be tested by Hokonya’s unbeaten record and explosive fighting style, making it one of the card’s most intriguing contests.
In the Heavyweight division, Maxwell Djantou Nana (7-1) faces Justin Clarke (3-0) in what promises to be a high-impact showdown. Both fighters are known for their striking power and athleticism, often finishing fights early in the first rounds. Other exciting bouts include Boule Godogo (4-0) versus Karim Henniene (5-0) and Yabna N’Tchala versus Emilios Dassi, featuring undefeated prospects aiming to make a mark on the PFL stage. These matchups highlight the depth of African MMA talent that has emerged in recent years.
Adding local excitement, Rwanda’s own James Opio will appear in a special showcase fight against Isaac Omeda. This bout is particularly significant as it marks the first time a Rwandan fighter will compete on home soil in a major international MMA event. The inclusion of local fighters helps engage the Rwandan audience, promotes regional pride, and builds pathways for future athletes from East Africa to join global organizations like the PFL and UFC. For the local sports community, this fight represents both inspiration and opportunity.
Beyond the fights, PFL Africa 3 symbolizes the continued globalization of MMA and Africa’s growing role in the sport’s future. The PFL’s commitment to building regional leagues and nurturing local talent aligns with its broader mission to provide year-round competition and global exposure for fighters. For Rwanda, hosting this event enhances its reputation as a premier destination for international sports and entertainment, strengthening tourism and economic engagement. The energy around PFL Africa 3 is expected to make it one of the most memorable combat sports nights ever held on the continent.
