Manchester, England – Manchester City have reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders in a €55 million (£46.3 million) deal, as the Premier League champions aim to reinforce their midfield ahead of the Club World Cup.
The 26-year-old will pen a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium after agreeing personal terms with the club. His signing is expected to be finalized pending a medical, with additional payments included in the deal based on performance-related clauses.
City are hopeful that Reijnders will complete his move before the Club World Cup kicks off on June 14, providing much-needed depth following injuries to Mateo Kovacic, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to Achilles surgery, and Kevin De Bruyne, whose future at the club remains uncertain amid links to Serie A champions Napoli.
Who is Tijjani Reijnders?
A versatile and technically gifted midfielder, Reijnders has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands and offers tactical flexibility that City lacked last season.
His recent form at AC Milan was impressive, scoring 15 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions and earning the Serie A Midfielder of the Season award. Despite Milan’s struggles, finishing eighth and missing out on European football, Reijnders delivered a standout campaign, recording the best goalscoring figures of his career.
Having risen through the ranks from PEC Zwolle and AZ Alkmaar, Reijnders has developed into a complete midfielder—capable of operating deep or high up the pitch, making him a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s tactical demands. His ability to maneuver in tight spaces and break opposition presses makes him an ideal addition alongside Rodri or in a more advanced role.
With City striving for dominance on multiple fronts, Reijnders’ arrival brings tactical flexibility and quality to their midfield, offering Guardiola greater depth and creative options heading into the upcoming season.
