Alaeddin Boroujerdi, speaking on Iranian state television, said that some ships transiting the narrow waterway are now subject to what he described as a new financial regime imposed by Tehran.

“A new governing regime is being imposed in the Strait,” he said, adding that “war has costs.” He suggested that the fees demonstrate “the authority and right that the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses.”
