CAIRO, Egypt – Egypt opened the 6th International Exhibition and Conference on Intelligent Transport, Infrastructure, Logistics, and Industry (TransMEA 2025) on Sunday, with the country’s industrial and transportation ambitions taking center stage, underscored by major milestones in its landmark high-speed rail project developed with Siemens Mobility.
The three-day event, inaugurated by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, brings together approximately 500 companies from around 30 countries, reflecting Egypt’s position as the Middle East and Africa’s premier platform for cutting-edge solutions in digital infrastructure, sustainable logistics, and next-generation transport systems.
The inauguration was a landmark moment for the nation’s rail transformation. Prime Minister Madbouly gave the signal to begin the trial operation of the first phase of the high-speed electric train line, a project seeing rapid progress through its partnership with Siemens Mobility.
The company used the exhibition to unveil the Velaro high-speed train to the Egyptian public for the first time. The technologically advanced train, specially adapted for Egypt’s desert conditions, is capable of reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h and can seat 489 passengers.
In a parallel achievement witnessed by senior government and Siemens executives, the Desiro HC regional train successfully completed its first test run on newly constructed tracks west of Cairo. This train is slated for commissioning on the “Green Line,” a 660 km network that will connect Cairo to Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, and Marsa Matrouh—a project of such economic significance it has been dubbed the “Suez Canal on Rails.”
“Siemens Mobility has reached major milestones in Egypt’s rail transformation journey, connecting millions of Egyptian people across the country with fast, reliable, and sustainable rail service,” a statement from the company read. These achievements highlight Egypt’s bold vision to build one of the world’s largest high-speed rail networks, which is being developed in partnership with Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Madbouly framed these developments as critical to Egypt’s economic future. “Egypt is witnessing unprecedented progress in both local manufacturing and transport infrastructure,” he stated, describing them as the “twin engines of sustainable national development” and a core part of the government’s push toward a productive, export-oriented economy.
The TransMEA 2025 exhibition reflects this dual focus. Alongside displays of smart traffic management and electric vehicle technology, a dedicated industrial sector emphasizes deepening local manufacturing of transport components. This initiative aims to reduce dependence on imports and connect Egyptian suppliers with major international producers.
The international interest in Egypt’s growing market was palpable among attendees. Wang Qundi, sales manager for a Chinese tire manufacturing company, highlighted the potential for partnership. “This is our first time participating in the exhibition, and we are here looking for investment opportunities because the Egyptian market is extremely promising,” she said, noting the collaborative doors opened by frameworks like the Belt and Road Initiative.
The event and the simultaneous rail milestones solidify Egypt’s strategic commitment to leveraging large-scale, sustainable infrastructure projects and local industrial growth as the foundation for its long-term economic vision.
