On a tour through the remote reaches of South Kivu, Governor Patrick Busu bwa Ngwi has taken steps to solidify the presence and influence of the Congo River Alliance-M23 (AFC-M23) in Walungu Territory.
Since August 25, the governor has met with groupement chiefs, security force representatives and community leaders. He said the aim is to strengthen cohesion between the provincial administration and local populations while advancing development projects initiated by the AFC-M23.
Key priorities include rehabilitating rural roads to improve market access, bolstering health-centre infrastructure and launching training programmes for at-risk youth. Governor Busu bwa Ngwi announced that construction of two primary schools in the Chikolongo area will begin shortly.
“True success of this revolution lies in tangible progress on the ground: improved roads, functioning schools and well-supplied health clinics. We must translate our political ambitions into concrete actions,” he told a gathering of local notables.
Residents welcomed the outreach. “We felt forgotten. Today the governor comes to meet us; it’s a powerful sign of recognition and respect,” said Marie-Thérèse Munyankindi, president of a women farmers’ collective.
The tour is set to continue in early September in the neighbouring territories of Mwenga and Fizi, which face similar infrastructure and security challenges. Governor Busu bwa Ngwi pledged that each stop will assess specific local needs and set clear timelines for project implementation.
