Denver, CO — A disturbing incident unfolded in Denver Sunday evening when multiple people were set ablaze in what police believe was an antisemitic hate crime. Authorities have launched a federal investigation following the attack, which left four individuals in critical condition.
The assault took place during a gathering at a private home in eastern Denver. According to police reports, a man forcibly entered the residence during a Jewish faith-based meeting, allegedly shouting antisemitic insults before spraying victims with a flammable substance and setting them on fire.
Six people were injured, with four sustaining life-threatening burns. The remaining two were treated for less severe injuries. Emergency personnel quickly responded, and the wounded were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A suspect has been taken into custody and the FBI is treating the case as a suspected act of domestic terrorism motivated by religious hatred.
City and state officials have spoken out strongly. Denver’s mayor labeled the attack as a “cowardly and hateful act,” while Colorado’s governor assured the public that the state will pursue justice rigorously.
Jewish leaders and community members are grieving and calling for unity in the face of rising hate. Increased security has been put in place at Jewish institutions, and interfaith coalitions are planning public gatherings to support the victims and their families.
