KIGALI, RWANDA — Burundian music sensation Kirikou Akili, known for his breakout hit “Aha Nihe?”, is turning up the heat in East Africa’s music scene with a bold announcement: he’s about to drop new tracks featuring top Rwandan artists Bushali, Yampano, and Davis D. The collaborations, he says, will redefine cross-border musical synergy between Rwanda and Burundi.
A Regional Anthem in the Making Speaking at a press conference in Kigali on Friday, October 16, 2025, Kirikou teased the upcoming releases as part of the buzz surrounding the “Let’s Celebrate” concert, slated for Sunday, October 19. The event, powered by Be One Gin and organized by Kigali Protocol, promises a star-studded lineup including Ross Kana, Davis D, Bushali, Yampano, Diez Dolla, Alto, and DJ Brianne on the decks.
In his signature playful tone, Kirikou expressed excitement about working with Rwanda’s finest:
“These guys here—working with them is a blast. As the king of the kids, I need the kids to love me too,” he joked, nodding to Davis D. “We’ve all collaborated. The songs are coming soon.”
Clearing the Air on Rwandan Music in Burundi Kirikou also addressed recent controversy surrounding his comments on Rwandan music airplay in Burundi. He clarified that his words were misunderstood:
“People got me wrong. Rwandan music is played in Burundi—thanks to DJs like Brianne and artists like Bruce Melodie. They don’t need to pay or be invited; they’re played because they’re loved. I just meant it’s not as constant as it used to be.”
Building Bridges Through Beats The artist emphasized that Rwandan music continues to win hearts in Burundi and that there’s growing optimism for deeper collaboration between artists from both countries. Working with Bushali, Davis D, and Yampano, he believes, will expand his reach and promote a culture of musical unity.
Kirikou also praised Rwandan artists for their professionalism and evolving influence across genres, reaffirming his commitment to uplifting regional music.
“Let’s Celebrate” — More Than a Concert The upcoming “Let’s Celebrate” show is being hailed as a cultural summit for Rwandan and Burundian artists. It will serve as a launchpad for Kirikou’s new tracks and a showcase of regional talent. Be One Gin’s Deputy Marketing Director, Rugwiro Gaella, shared their excitement:
“We’re proud to support ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and will continue partnering with artists to help Rwandans—especially the youth—enjoy life.”
She added that Be One Gin will be available at the event and hinted at plans to make the concert a monthly tradition.
