CRANS-MONTANA, SWITZERLAND – A devastating explosion has ripped through a popular bar in the upmarket Alpine resort of Crans-Montana during the early hours of New Year’s Day, leaving “several” people dead and many others injured.
The Incident
The blast occurred at approximately 01:30 local time (00:30 GMT) at the Constellation Bar, a well-known venue in the heart of the Valais region. At the time of the explosion, the bar was reportedly hosting New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Casualties: Valais Cantonal Police have confirmed multiple deaths. While an exact figure has not been released, a spokesperson told the BBC, “We can’t say yet. Several.”

Investigation into the Cause
While official sources state the cause of the explosion remains “unknown,” local Swiss news outlet Blick has suggested that fireworks set off during a concert inside the building may have triggered the disaster.
Social media footage currently being verified by news agencies shows intense flames burning inside the structure, filmed from the road outside the bar.
