Typhoon Ragasa made landfall this afternoon on the coast of Hailing Island in Yangjiang city, located in China’s southern Guangdong province. The storm struck at approximately 17:00 local time (10:00 BST), with maximum wind speeds near the center reaching 144 km/h (89 mph), according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The powerful typhoon had earlier battered Hong Kong, leaving at least 62 people injured and prompting widespread disruption. The Hong Kong Observatory confirmed that Ragasa has weakened from a super typhoon to a severe typhoon, though dangerous conditions persist.

As Ragasa gradually departs Hong Kong, gale to storm-force winds continue to lash parts of the territory. Meteorologists warn of frequent squally rain showers, intense thunderstorms, and high sea swells that could breach coastal defenses.

Authorities in Guangdong are bracing for further impact as the storm moves westward along the province’s coastline. Emergency services remain on high alert, and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay indoors and avoid shoreline activity.

More updates are expected as the situation develops and damage assessments begin across affected regions.
