Washington DC – Rwanda is expanding its diplomatic and economic engagement with the United States as Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana undertook a series of strategic meetings in Oregon, highlighting opportunities for American businesses, educational institutions, and organizations to strengthen partnerships with Rwanda.
The ambassador’s visit included engagements with Oregon government officials, Nike and the Nike Foundation, Lewis & Clark College, and Africa New Life Ministries, reflecting Rwanda’s commitment to international cooperation, investment, education, sports development, and humanitarian progress.
Strengthening Business and Government Partnerships
During meetings with Oregon officials, Ambassador Mukantabana explored opportunities for collaboration in education, sports, governance, and institutional development. Discussions also highlighted Rwanda’s experience in national unity and reconciliation following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
In separate engagements with Nike and the Nike Foundation, the ambassador presented Rwanda’s strategic economic sectors and discussed business opportunities and potential sports partnerships.
The meetings highlighted opportunities for American companies interested in exploring Rwanda’s investment environment, growing sports industry, and broader economic development priorities.
Rwanda continues to position itself as a destination for international business partnerships, emphasizing innovation, infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, and regional economic connectivity.

Education and Humanitarian Cooperation
At Lewis & Clark College, Ambassador Mukantabana discussed the institution’s educational partnership with Rwanda through the Dallaire Scholarship, highlighting the importance of academic exchanges and international educational opportunities.
The ambassador also attended the 25th-anniversary celebration of Africa New Life Ministries in Portland, recognizing the organization’s longstanding contributions to education, healthcare, and community development in Rwanda.
Addressing participants, Ambassador Mukantabana praised the organization’s impact:
“Tonight, we celebrate the children who have been able to attend school, the families who have received care, and the communities that have found renewed hope through your service.”
The celebration demonstrated how sustained American partnerships with Rwandan communities can support access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for families.

Rwanda’s Growing International Partnerships
Ambassador Mukantabana’s Oregon visit illustrated Rwanda’s approach to economic diplomacy, bringing together government leaders, international corporations, academic institutions, and humanitarian organizations.
The engagements also highlighted areas where American businesses and institutions can explore mutually beneficial cooperation with Rwanda, including investment, education, technology, sports, and community development.
For American entrepreneurs, universities, investors, and nonprofit organizations seeking international partnerships, Rwanda offers opportunities to engage with a country pursuing economic diversification, human-capital development, and greater global connectivity.
The Oregon visit underscores a central message of Rwanda’s international engagement: stronger partnerships between American and Rwandan institutions can create new opportunities for business, education, innovation, and shared prosperity.
