The 25th COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government took place from October 19 to October 22, 2026, at the Harare International Conference Centre and the Parliament Building in Harare, Zimbabwe. This high-level gathering brought together leaders, ministers, and delegates from across the 21 member states of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa. The multi-day event served as a critical platform to evaluate regional economic progress, trade facilitation, and strategic development goals.
The summit was held under the central theme of “One Market, One Future: Advancing Inclusive Industrialisation, Investment and Regional Integration in COMESA.” This theme underscored the bloc’s collective focus on accelerating industrial development, harmonizing investment policies, and deepening market integration. Delegates engaged in high-level dialogues aimed at unlocking private sector potential and building resilient regional value chains.
As the host country, the Republic of Zimbabwe officially assumed the rotational chairmanship of the COMESA authority during the summit. Zimbabwe takes over leadership of the regional trade bloc with a mandate to champion infrastructure development, digital trade facilitation, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives over the next year. The transition of leadership represents a pivotal moment for the host nation to spearhead economic integration policies across East and Southern Africa.
A prominent feature of the week was the COMESA Business Forum and Exhibition, which was held on October 20 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel. This segment brought together private sector executives, policymakers, and international investors to showcase regional innovations and discuss trade barriers. The discussions centered heavily on leveraging digital platforms to boost intra-regional commerce and improve ease of doing business across borders.
In addition to economic trade, the event hosted the 21st Annual Meeting of COMESA Ministers of Foreign Affairs on October 21. This ministerial session focused tightly on peace, security, and stability, which the bloc recognizes as essential prerequisites for sustainable economic growth. Ministers reviewed regional security dynamics, democracy, and governance, emphasizing collaborative efforts to address conflicts and enhance humanitarian coordination.

The summit concluded on October 22 with the main assembly of the Heads of State and Government at the Parliament Building, featuring prominent regional leaders including Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, who represented the Republic of Rwanda. The final sessions solidified regional trade pacts, approved budget frameworks, and renewed commitments to fully operationalize the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Free Trade Area.
