KIGALI, Rwanda — Rwandan entertainment journalist and media personality Issiaka Mulemba has completed the training and coursework required to join the United States Air Force.
Mulemba shared the news on his social media platforms, posting photographs of himself wearing a U.S. Air Force uniform after completing the required training.
The former media personality, who has been living in the United States for some time, is known for his work in Rwanda’s entertainment and sports media. He previously worked with Voice of Africa Radio, Isango Star and BTN TV, where he hosted programs covering entertainment and sports.
Joining the U.S. military requires applicants to meet several eligibility requirements. According to U.S. military guidelines, applicants generally need to be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, commonly known as Green Card holders.
Applicants must also meet age, education, English language and medical requirements before being considered for military service. They undergo an aptitude test covering areas such as mathematics, English, general knowledge and technical skills, followed by a medical examination.
Those who qualify proceed to basic military training, where they receive physical training and instruction in discipline, military procedures and following orders.
After basic training, recruits normally undertake technical training for a specific military occupation before being assigned to their first duty station.
Mulemba’s transition from Rwanda’s entertainment media industry to the U.S. military marks a major change in his professional journey.
He became known to Rwandan audiences through his work in radio and television, particularly in entertainment and sports programming. In 2023, he also got married, although he has generally kept his wife’s identity private.
His completion of the Air Force training has since attracted attention from former colleagues and followers who have congratulated him on the new chapter of his career.
