Kenyan President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding development initiatives in Turkana County, emphasizing that the region’s abundant natural resources and economic opportunities should be harnessed to improve the lives of local communities while contributing to Kenya’s broader national growth. Speaking after consultations with leaders from the county, the President said the government and local leadership had agreed to fast-track the implementation of key infrastructure and social development projects designed to stimulate economic progress and improve public services. Planned priorities include expanding affordable housing, increasing student accommodation, modernizing public markets, strengthening fisheries infrastructure, and improving road and water networks to support sustainable livelihoods.
President Ruto also underscored the importance of maintaining peace, security, and social cohesion as essential foundations for long-term investment and inclusive development. He noted that a stable environment would enable Turkana to fully realize its economic potential and create greater opportunities for its residents. During his meeting with Members of Parliament representing the county, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working collaboratively with local leaders to address development priorities. “Our objective is to unlock Turkana’s potential through coordinated investments that improve livelihoods and create opportunities for every citizen,” President Ruto said.
Government officials reiterated that infrastructure expansion and strengthened public services remain central to Kenya’s national development agenda, with county governments playing a vital role in delivering sustainable economic growth. A representative of the county leadership welcomed the continued partnership, stating, “The shared commitment between the national and county governments gives our communities confidence that development projects will continue to advance and bring lasting benefits to the people of Turkana.” Local residents also expressed optimism that improvements in transport, water access, housing, and economic infrastructure would support employment, strengthen local businesses, and enhance living standards across the county.
