BANGUI, Central African Republic — Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) joined members of the Rwandan community living in the country for a friendly volleyball match on August 1, 2026, in an event aimed at promoting unity, cooperation, and solidarity. The match took place at the RWABATT-1 Camp in M’Poko, Bangui, bringing together personnel from RWABATT-2 and members of the Rwandan diaspora in a spirit of friendship beyond their shared commitment to peacekeeping.
RWABATT-2 secured a straight-sets victory, winning the contest 3-0. While the competition highlighted teamwork and sportsmanship, organizers emphasized that the event’s broader purpose was to strengthen the relationship between peacekeepers serving abroad and fellow Rwandans residing in the Central African Republic. The gathering provided an opportunity for interaction, cultural connection, and mutual encouragement among participants.
The event was attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Central African Republic, H.E. Olivier Kayumba, who served as the guest of honor, alongside Mrs. Uwera Mignonne, President of the Rwandan Community in the Central African Republic, the RWABATT-2 Contingent Commander, military officers, and members of the Rwandan diaspora. Their presence underscored the importance of maintaining close ties between diplomatic representatives, peacekeeping personnel, and citizens living overseas.
According to the Rwanda Ministry of Defence, activities of this nature help reinforce cooperation, patriotism, and a shared sense of national identity while supporting the well-being of personnel deployed on international peacekeeping missions. The ministry noted that such engagements also encourage stronger connections between United Nations peacekeepers and the communities they represent abroad.
Speaking during the event, Ambassador Olivier Kayumba praised the initiative, stating, “Gatherings like this strengthen the bonds that unite Rwandans wherever they serve or reside and reflect the values of solidarity and mutual respect.” The Rwanda Ministry of Defence also said in its official communication that “these engagements reinforce the close relationship between RDF personnel serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission and the Rwandan community abroad, reflecting shared values of patriotism, cohesion, and service to the nation.”
The volleyball match concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to maintaining strong community relationships while supporting the United Nations’ efforts to promote peace and stability in the Central African Republic.
